Zambia celebrated its Sanitation Week in the week of 15th October 2008, as announced by the Ministry of Local Government and Housing. Up to 13 television programs broadcast discussions on sanitation and hygiene issues.

In the capital city, Lusaka, local authorities launched a campaign for hygiene promotion in public places – especially restaurants – to help curb cholera outbreaks. Handwashing practices in food preparation premises topped the agenda in this campaign.
